Pastor McCoy grew up on the south side of Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Southtown Baptist church and received a good Biblical foundation, but did not fully understand Salvation. In February of 1993, he accepted Christ as his Savior after diligently reading the Bible for 8 months.
He was called to preach in the spring of 1993 while praying at the foot of his bed. In 2001, he and his family moved to Indiana in order to attend Hyles-Anderson College. He graduated with a B.S. in Pastoral Theology in the spring of 2006.
He started First Baptist Church of Urbandale in November of 2006 with his wife, Kim, and his five children.
